If future astronauts standing on Mars were to look at the Earth, they would see a bright, blue planet.

It would appear alternately in the morning and evenings, as Venus does from Earth, and would have the same phases as Venus.

Earth as Seen from MarsWith a telescope on Mars, they would be able to see the combined movements of the Earth and Moon, including the movements of the Earth-Moon system during lunar and solar eclipses.

Transits of Earth Across the Sun

The next transit of Earth across the Sun, as seen from Mars, will take place on November 10, 2084. During these transits, the Earth passes directly between Mars and the Sun. From Mars, the Earth would appear to be a small dark spot on the Sun.
